Tokyo events for Monday, April 1 to Sunday, April 7, 2024.
Cherry blossoms are making fools of us all this April as the forecast has once again been delayed, but that does mean this week is the best time to see them.
Also coinciding with the sakura full bloom is the Kanamara Festival, which celebrates another large pink object. Still not your thing? Grab a beer in Toyosu or see other flowers bloom.
Yoyogi Park Wanwan Carnival
Dog clothes, dog grooming, professional dog photographers, performing dogs, dog quizzes, dog dancing, famous dogs, obedience, agility, and speed-eating contests are all part of the event.
Kanamara “Penis” Festival
Yes, you read the title right. The Kanamara Festival (aka the Penis Festival) at Kanayama Shrine in Kawasaki features phallic images in everything from the decorations to snacks (as well as your regular festival food.) Profits raised from the event go to HIV research.
Sakura Genesis
Sakura Genesis is a New Japan Pro-Wrestling event that takes place at Ryōgoku Kokugikan (the sumo stadium) each year. The match will be streamed online in English on the NJPW World App for non-Japan territories and on VOD later for those in Japan.
Belgian Beer Weekend Toyosu
There will also be delicious chargrilled food and scenic views of Toyosu Bay. The event will not run continuously, rather it will run from Friday to Sunday on two successive weeks (April 5 to 7 and April 12 to 14.)

Nezu Shrine Azalea Festival
Officially the “Bunkyo Azalea Festival,” this annual event takes place immediately after cherry blossom season at Nezu Shrine. There are food and drink stalls, a market, and performances. On Sunday, April 7 at 12 p.m. there will be a mikoshi (portable shrine) procession.

Flowering at Hitachi Seaside Park
It’s rare to see a blue flower — let alone a whole field of them. But that’s the main attraction at Hitachi Seaside Park’s annual spring event, Flowering. The nemophila, also known as baby blue eyes or California bluebells, reach their peak sometime between mid-April and early May.
