Nezu Shrine Azalea Festival

9:30am – 5:30pm
¥500 (on the door)

Officially the “Bunkyo Azalea Festival,” this annual event takes place immediately after cherry blossom season at Nezu Shrine.

Entering the main shrine is free, but there is a ¥500 fee for entering the hillside garden filled with an explosion of neatly trimmed pink, white, red, and purple azalea bushes.

What happens?

There are food and drink stalls, a market, and performances. It’s also usually extremely crowded, which will probably still be the case. Going on a weekday is recommended and the best time to see the flowers is around mid-April.

Schedule 2024

There will be an antique market and street stalls every day, as well as…

  • On Sunday, April 7 at 12 p.m. there will be a mikoshi (portable shrine) procession.
  • On Sunday, April 13, 20, and 28 there will be a drum performance at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m.
Organizers may cancel events, alter schedules, or change admission requirements without notice. Always check official sites before heading to an event.
