Ōme (literally ‘green plum’) is a mixed suburban/semi-rural city in the far west of Tokyo Prefecture.
Nearby there are lots of places for hiking and enjoying outdoor activities including Mt. Mitake with a cable car leading to an area of sacred shrines. The Tama River flows through the area and at least at this point is beautifully clear and clean.
Ōme Station is on the Ōme Line which has regular through services from the Chūō Line — connecting to Hachiōji, Kichijōji, Shinjuku, and central Tokyo to the west.
